Black-and-white photos of grandparents, military portraits, 1960s weddings — in color they feel completely different: closer and more alive. Colorizing used to be manual retouching work that took hours per print. AI does it in under a minute.
Upload a scan, or just a phone photo of the print, to the Colorize B&W Photo template. The AI picks natural tones for skin, hair, clothes and background and keeps the poses, faces and atmosphere of the original. If you know the real colors, add them in the Additional description field: “navy dress with white polka dots, red hair, green leaves”. Without a hint, the model picks plausible colors — but it has to guess them.
Colorizing runs on GPT Image 2.5 for 3 credits per photo. If the print is scratched or creased, run it through restoration first, and upscale after colorizing if you plan to print it. For finer control, use the AI photo editor: choose a model such as Nano Banana 2 and describe the colors of each person and object in detail.
