PNG to ICO Favicon Generator

One image in, favicon.ico and every icon browsers and phones look for out.

I

A favicon is the small icon in browser tabs and bookmarks. The classic version is favicon.ico, a single file holding several sizes: 16, 32 and 48 pixels.

Turn on “Favicon set” and the ZIP also contains PNGs at 16 and 32 px, a 180 px apple-touch-icon for iPhone, 192 and 512 px icons for Android, a site.webmanifest and ready-to-paste <head> tags.

Start from a square PNG of 512 px or more with a transparent background and a simple, bold design: at 16 pixels fine detail turns to mush.

FAQ

Which sizes go into favicon.ico?+

Usually 16, 32 and 48 px, selected by default. You can add 64, 128 and 256 px.

My image isn't square. What happens?+

It's fitted into a square with transparent margins, without distortion.

How do I add the favicon to my site?+

Upload the files from the ZIP to your site's root and paste the lines from head.html into the <head> of your pages.

Is it free?+

Yes. Converting and compressing are free and need no sign-up. Without an account you can send files up to 100 MB and videos up to 10 minutes to the server; signed in, up to 500 MB and 30 minutes. In the browser, pictures up to 150 MB and videos up to 1 GB are handled locally.

Where do my files go?+

Files are processed right in your browser and never uploaded. If the browser can't handle a file (a rare codec or a very large file), it goes to our server instead and is deleted about an hour later.
