WAV to MP3 Converter

Bulky WAVs into light MP3s for sharing and listening.

I

WAV stores sound uncompressed, so a minute of CD-quality stereo takes about 10 MB. That's awkward to send or keep on a phone. At 192–320 kbps an MP3 sounds the same to most listeners and is several times smaller.

Add WAV files above, pick a bitrate and download MP3s. For voice recordings and podcasts 96–128 kbps is enough, and the Mono switch halves the size again.

FAQ

Which bitrate for music?+

192 kbps is a good choice for listening; 320 kbps is the MP3 maximum if every detail matters.

Can I convert MP3 back to WAV?+

Yes, choose WAV. Quality won't improve, though: what MP3 compression removed can't be restored.

Is it free?+

Yes. Converting and compressing are free and need no sign-up. Without an account you can send files up to 100 MB and videos up to 10 minutes to the server; signed in, up to 500 MB and 30 minutes. In the browser, pictures up to 150 MB and videos up to 1 GB are handled locally.

Where do my files go?+

Files are processed right in your browser and never uploaded. If the browser can't handle a file (a rare codec or a very large file), it goes to our server instead and is deleted about an hour later.
